Local Excursions
Learning is living and Lyceum English makes every effort to bring you and your new language skills into the rich world of Australian lifestyle, history and culture.
Your teachers will show you around Melbourne:
- visit charming shops and market places
- go to art galleries and town squares
- discuss the street art with your teacher
- practise your skills in enjoyable settings
Apart from your class outings, we will arrange an enjoyable variety of social, cultural and sporting activities for you to choose from. These outings provide excellent opportunities for getting together with your classmates, teachers and other Australians and practising your speaking skills as you enjoy and learn about our country and culture.
-
Enjoy every moment of your time with us by being a part of:
- Learning about History and architecture
- Taking bush walks, visiting Kangaroos and Koalas, and more
- Cafes, restaurants and sport
- Lyceum Barbeques in the bush and parks
All students are encouraged to taste the excitement of life in Melbourne while studying. Teachers in every class will make sure that your study time is mixed with lots of opportunities to apply what you have learned in real life situations. Some of our 'Taste of Melbourne' tours for new students include:
- Tour Melbourne's tallest and smallest buildings period by period
- Enjoy the lacework of lanes in the old CBD
- Sample the poems and songs of Melbourne's seafarers, convicts and settlers and contrast with the fabric of English heritage
- Admire the buildings of the colonial era
- Visit the old settler's cottages, the Queen Victoria site, the mission to the sailors and seafarers, the old port of Melbourne, the Melbourne Club and the German Settlement in Thomastown
Students are encouraged to form groups to go on outings. Information is posted in the school about many activities such as movies, open air cinema, theatre in the gardens, poetry in the pub, Jazz at the Zoo, Latin American dancing at St Kilda beach, live music around town, cheap eats or fine dining, football, rugby or soccer games and more... ours is a city of festivals, performances and exhibitions.
There is no end to the exciting places Melbourne offers to students of English to explore and enjoy.
